The Living Flame

A national program on contemplative issues, designed to heighten the awareness of the dynamic of Centering Prayer in the context of the Spiritual Journey, offering guidance and intelligibility needed to stay faithful to the practice. It is an opportunity to receive and share conceptual background at a deeper level, a well as experiential insight, thus building a faith community committed to the Centering Prayer practice. Meets one Saturday a month during seven consecutive months

The Living Flame Program II

The Living Flame Program will continue this fall (2007) with Living Flame II on the third Saturday of each month. Members of the Contemplative Outreach National Resource Faculty will present each workshop. The Living Flame Program is experiential and informational, giving participants the opportunity to evaluate, validate and share their own experience of prayer in the context of community. It was also designed to:

• Heighten the awareness of the dynamic of contemplative prayer in the context of the Spiritual Journey.
• Offer the understanding needed to stay faithful to the Centering Prayer practice.
• Help discern when the support of psychological skills may be helpful tools on the journey.
• Access deeper understanding of the purification process in contemplative prayer.
• Provide an opportunity to receive and share personal experiences in a small faith community committed to the Centering Prayer practice.
• Expose local communities to the wider Contemplative Outreach family through inviting national faculty members to participate as Presenters.

Thomas Keating’s Spiritual Journey tapes, and familiarity with his books, Open Mind Open Heart, Invitation to Love and Intimacy with God.
